This website shows a variety of the work I have been doing over the last few years. The abstract work is a direct response to the sea, sky and landscape that surrounds me where I live in Hastings. The paintings range from huge canvases to small more object-like works. I like to work within a 'series'  of subject matter, the current one being 'If, on a winter's night'.The materiality of paint and technique is exploited to reach a finely balanced response to the transience and ephemerality of my subject matter.

Photography and mark-making are often the impetus for both painting and sculpture. In contrast, the figurative paintings are painted directly from the model. This is an important discipline to me, and even more so is drawing which underpins all my work. Generally the figurative paintings are made over three or four sittings, in four or five hourly sessions.
